Coach Merzon has been coaching with the Mustang Football Program for 21 years.  When he was a player for the  Oakdale Mustangs (1982 - 1985), his team earned two League Championships (1983, 1984).  After graduating from OHS in 1985, Merzon went on to play football for Hayward State, Delta College and The University of Dubuque, Iowa.  Upon completing college, he knew he wanted to return to Oakdale and give back to a community that had given him so much.  In 1992, he started coaching football and baseball at Oakdale High under the great leadership of coaches like Marc Malone and Rob Steves.  He took on the position of Head Varsity Football Coach in 2000 and has since helped lead his teams to  8 Valley Oak League Championships (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), a Sac-Joaquin Section Championship (2007) and a mythical State Championship (2007).  He has been awarded Valley Oak League Coach of the year 5 times, and District Coach of the Year in 2004.

Coach Merzon has been married to his wife for 8 years.  They have been blessed with two adorable children.  They are Oakdale’s biggest fans!  Trent feels truly blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful friends, family members, coaches, players, and community members.
